Grid
Grid connections are often a significant part of the total cost of a renewable energy project. BJRE are able to carry out contestable grid connection works for 11/33kV connections to the grid, and have been involved in the construction of HV systems up to and including 132kV.

Competition in
Electricity Connections’ customers now have the option to
seek competitive quotations for some of the works required to make a
new connection to the electricity distribution system.
We operate high
voltage networks for a wide range of clients, including utility companies,
marine testing facilities and wind turbine developers.
High levels of expertise have been acquired over numerous years of carrying out work in this very demanding sector, culminating in accreditation with NERS & Lloyds Register.
Our accreditation covers:
Cable Laying 11kV, 33kV
Civil Works
Jointing 11kV, 33kV
Substation Installation 11kV, 33kV
O/Head Line Wooden Pole 11kV – CM, 33kV – CM
Electrical Design of Distribution Networks
Covering HV Cable Networks 11kV, HV Cable Networks 33kV, S/Station 11kV,
S/Station 33kV
The National
Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) which came into effect in 2003 requires
all contractors carrying out these works to be specially accredited, and the
low number of grid connections in Orkney since 2003 did not justify this extra
accreditation.
Now, with the
significant increase in demand, we have invested in becoming
accredited, and can once again offer more competitive contestable grid
connection works. This will be particularly good news to private, commercial
and community developers alike, who can now access an alternative means of grid
connection.
